Beth Kunkel, OD


Optometrist

Dr. Beth (Snyder) Kunkel grew up in Watertown, SD. Her interest in optometry and the eye started at a young age, as she grew up learning about the human eye and how it works from her father, Dr. Wayne Snyder.

Dr. Beth attended the University of South Dakota, where she received her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She then attended the Illinois College of Optometry, where she graduated cum laude and received her Doctor of Optometry degree.

When Dr. Beth is not at the office seeing patients, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling to new places, enjoying weekends at the family cabin, golfing, fishing, and just creating new memories with her husband Dr. Matt Kunkel and two children, Addison and Garrett.


Matt Kunkel, OD


Optometrist

Matt Kunkel, OD, was born and raised in the northern Iowa town of Algona. He attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in May 2003. He was accepted to and went on to attend the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) in Chicago in the fall of 2003. In 2007, he received his Doctor of Optometry from ICO.

After graduation from ICO in 2007, Dr. Kunkel moved to Watertown, SD, married Dr. Beth (Snyder) Kunkel, and together they started Kunkel-Snyder Optometric. Dr. Kunkel practices full-scope optometry ranging from pediatric exams, to cataract evaluations, specialty contact lens fitting, and management of various eye diseases.

Outside of optometry, Matt enjoys playing golf, basketball, and spending time at his family’s lake home in southern Minnesota. Matt and Beth have two children.


Rachel Austvold, OD


Optometrist

Dr. Rachel (Osmundson) Austvold grew up in Fargo, ND. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and played on the Women’s soccer team.

After completing her Bachelor’s degree she ventured off on a year of international mission work across the globe. She served in over 10 countries during her time aboard. Upon arrival home she moved to Forest Grove, Oregon where she graduated with a Doctorate of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry.

In the fall of 2023, Dr. Rachel moved to Watertown with her husband, Treyton, and dog, Chip. Dr. Rachel joined the Kunkel-Snyder family and has enjoyed her time exploring Watertown and getting to know the community.

In her free time, Dr. Rachel enjoys reading, golfing and playing pickleball after work, and spending hours throwing the dummy for her labrador retriever to go swimming at her family’s lake.
